Main Description

The Vanguard How America Saves 2014, was a project done while I worked for an Agency. How America Saves is a report by Vanguard, the full-service provider of defined contribution plan services to more than 3.5 million participants with over $600 billion in assets at some 3,000 companies. They wanted to take their PDF report and make it interactive. Allowing users to drill down into areas, interact with graphs. I was responsible for coming up with the concept of displaying the content in a planetary-like alignment.

The business problem

Why it was a problem, to begin with.

The report has vital information about its funds but is not engaging. The PDF and accompanying report were great as means of presenting the information. They fell short in their ability to make the information easy to understand or digest. Moving from a static document to an interactive one. Removed the stigma that reports are dense and make the barrier for entry lower.

Reflections on the experience

What would you change looking back?

Looking back at the How America Saves 2014 interactive, I think the concept and execution are great. I would have added icons on the first level to show what type of information was contained on each level. I also would have added a let's get started feature which would let users know exactly how they should use it.

Let’s work together on your next project
