I worked on The Kids in the House Coloring book while I was a Graphic Designer for the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives. The project started after I started updating many of the Coloring handouts that we had on-site. The coloring pages for Elementary age children. After completing several pages I pitched the idea of creating a coloring book.
The website already had a printable Paper hat, I proposed the creation of a paper toy of the famous A. Bill character from the coloring book. The paper toy would only use one legal piece of paper and only require cutting and glue.

Office of the Clerk, U.S. House of Representatives
The House of Representatives is difficult for people to understand. It is especially difficult for children. The coloring book broke down the everyday functions of the House of Representatives so Elementary age children can understand. These pages could also be something that House Staff members give to visiting constituent's children.
On the website existed a Kids in the house crown, which reminded me of the type of things you would get at a kid's birthday. I proposed the paper toy because it was hip and cool.

Did your product meet its goals?
The Kids in the House coloring book was my first foray into illustration. I learned a lot from this project. Preparing the artwork for a coloring book is different than when you prepare the artwork for a a vector. The lines for the coloring book have to be thicker and all lines should be flat meaning no other lines beneath them since this will be printed and is typically only one color.
